Jarkan Open 60

Our latest canting keel Open 60.

Jarkan has just built an Open 60 for Spanish yachtsman Unai Basurko.

The Murray , Burns & Dovell design features a foam/epoxy/E-glass hull shell with a full Carbon structure and deck.

The canting keel, asymmetric dagger boards and twin rudders, together with the massive carbon rig make this a state of the art sailing machine.

Passions of Paradise

Passions of Paradise This 75 foot sailing/power tourist catamaran was built by Jarkan. She carries 100 passengers and a crew of 12

AURORA 39 Number one launched.

The first Aurora 39 - Aurora Kiss - was launched in Jervis Bay.

The first sail saw most of the Jarkan staff and owners Selwyn and Barbara Abrahams delighted with the performance on the bay in winds gusting to 30 knots.

She next went the 90 miles to Sydney overnight in fine style, and proved to be most comfortable at sea.

Since then we have been for a few test sails and she performs to all expectations.
Boat number two is well under way for her owners they came for a test sail in Sydney.

Cruising Helmsman magazine is doing a boat test in the May issue.

The pictures are from the first sail.

Jarkan launch innovative multi purpose Power Catamaran

The Sea Change 10.8m power cat launched

Sydney-based designer John King, who was involved in the design of America's Cup contender Australia II, designed the hull on which Sea Change is built.
The fully - surveyed Sea Change features a fly-bridge helm, downstairs double berth and galley, head, shower and large aft deck. Stylish wood panelling, smooth lines, comfortable accommodation, spaciousness and stability are design features well suited to the target market of tourists or corporate groups keen for a leisurely trip for lunch or dinner out on the Bay.
Displacing seven tonnes and with a beam of 4.5m, the cat is stable both at rest and underway. Innovative design means each of the hulls is shaped like a foil, allowing the use of surprisingly modest engines. Sea Change is fitted with twin 140hp Yanmar 4LH diesels, although twin 80's are an option for those who like to dawdle along in the 10-15knot range. At 1000 rpm the twin Yanmar's had Sea Change cruising up to its mooring at 6.5 knots. At 3200 revs she was up and bounding along over a low swell at 20.7 knots; 2200 rpm gave a very comfortable cruise of around 15 knots. With its fuel efficiency and generous tank capacity, extended cruising to places like Cape York and the Kimberley's is a realistic option.
A neat design feature considering the multi-use options available to this cat is that the bottom of each hull extends below the props to prevent damage to the running gear if the vessel should happen to run aground.
The luxury cruiser market represented by Sea Change is only one facet of the Jarkan power cat hull. The generous beam, inherent seaworthiness and low power requirements make it a real option for the hard-core fishing fraternity. Stick on a couple of outriggers, install some stainless rod holders and rocket launcher, upgrade the electronics and you're set to go. Whack in a game chair and a few other bits and pieces and you could mix it with the best out at the shelf. In bare bones format, it's equally well suited to the rough and tumble world of dive and fishing charters. The ability to design a cabin top and deck layout dependent on customer requirements means you can come up with anything from a family cruiser, game fisher or raw workboat.
In base workboat format the power cat should provide an economical platform for around $230,000 with the base charter / family cruiser version priced at approximately $300,000.

Revolutionary Solar Sailor launched in record time by Jarkan
Testimony to Jarkan's reputation
Testimony to Jarkan's reputation as an innovative vessel manufacturer is the timely launch of the prototype Solar Sailor. The Solar Sailor is a revolutionary 22 metre hi-tech composite commercial ferry, that harnesses the natural resources of wind for sail power, combined with solar panels to develop efficient and viable electric marine propulsion.
Following an eight month construction period, on April 3 the team at Jarkan were proud to launch the first of its kind ferry in the waters of Jervis Bay near our facilities on the New South Wales South Coast. The boat was completed to the satisfaction of owners 'Advanced Watercraft Technology' by a small crew of shipwrights and fiber glass laminators - headed by lead shipwright Alan Jennings. The construction utilises PVC foam core and E-glass and Kevlar reinforcing fabrics for an extremely light, but very strong structure both key ingredients to the on the water performance of this radical craft.
The vessel is the brain child of Dr Robert Dane and designed by Graham Parker Naval Architects and is currently undergoing commissioning and sea trials before heading North to be showcased on Sydney Harbour.
